International Consortium for Multilingual Excellence in Education

ICMEE is a $2.7 million 5-year project (2016-2021) that was funded through the U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition's National Professional Development Award Program (Award Number #T365Z160351). The PI of the project is Dr. Kara Viesca.

Building off of the work of a previous grant, eCALLMS from the University of Colorado Denver, ICMEE has the overarching goal of improving the practice of K-12 educators working with bi/multilingual learners through the use, design and research of eWorkshops for professional learning communities of educators. Specifically, the project has the following three goals:

·Goal #1: Expand the use of eWorkshops with K-12 educators across the U.S. (11 states minimum)

·Goal #2: Design new eWorkshops for additional groups of educators (e.g., school psychologists, administrators, special education teachers, teachers of deaf students, English language arts and social studies teachers)

·Goal #3: Research the impacts of eWorkshop participation on teachers’ competencies regarding effective practice with bi/multilingual learners and on desired bi/multilingual student outcomes. Also offer valuable research to the field regarding measurement tools related to the effective teaching of bi/multilingual learners.
